– We Push Possible –
In 1907, Richard Bulmer served as a key member of the community in the historic and picturesque townland of Hacketstown, Co. Carlow. His craft was to make and mend timber cartwheels, repair timber windows, and add a level of care and attention to whatever his townspeople needed.
As time passed and Hacketstown grew into a market town Richard got busier, cartwheels were replaced by cars and window repairs were replaced by new windows and the request for traditional half-doors. Over time, Richard trained his son Michael- known to all as Mikey- to take over the business and continue the tradition, which he did successfully.
In 1965 Mikey added his sons to the business, and in his son Richard- known to all as Dick- he found a seven-year-old with passion and love for the craft. Over the following 25 years until Mikey’s untimely passing, Bulmer Joinery grew from humble beginnings to one of the busiest and well-respected group of craftsmen producing Timber Windows, Doors, and Stairs in the South East region. With an established brand of trust and craftsmanship and a growing client list Dick Bulmer assumed control of Bulmer Joinery and continued to produce high levels of high-quality Joinery.
In 2000 Bulmer Joinery moved location from Hacketstown to neighbouring Clonmore as the economic boom took hold and extra manufacturing space was required. 2024 marked a change in Bulmer Joinery with Dick passing the mantle onto the fourth generation. With an appreciation for Dick’s lifetime commitment to craftsmanship – which he continues to uphold as Workshop Manager – the next generation thought it fit to re-brand the business to 57 Joinery, a nod to the birth year of the driver of its success to date. Traditional techniques combined with new technologies and machinery is the DNA of 57 Joinery and enables the growing team to meet the high standards of our clients on time and on budget. A lot has changed since Richard Bulmer began the tradition in 1907 but what steadfastly remains is the level of craftsmanship and attention to traditional quality invested in each Window, Door, and Stairs which began in main street Hacketstown over 100 years ago.
